It's Been Awhile

January 16th, 2015

It has been some time since we last posted on our blog. So much has happened the last two months and we press forward, ever forward. Here is a little update.

Many good things have been happening. On December 14, Christopher was able to bring me home to our new apartment. Many victories, small and large, have been made. A few set backs, but we are learning to learn from those. Christopher is working and enjoying his office in the sky.

The journey back home in December was difficult, but things went more smoothly than expected. I got to experience traveling through an airport terminal in a wheelchair. That was new for me. The four hour trip seemed to take forever and was uncomfortable, but I have actually had worse flights. When we arrived home we were greeted by a beautiful light "Christmassy" snow. It was grand to see the mountains again and to see the new home Chris so lovingly prepared.

Every week since then (until this week), Chris has had to work a four day. That means he was away for three nights and four days. A terrifying thought at first, but I am slowly learning to become more independent. Each of those weeks a good friend of ours stayed with me for several hours each day, helping me with simple tasks and keeping me company. Our church ladies brought me meals. That was a comfort and a great help since it was very difficult for me to put together a simple meal for myself.

We learned how to have our holiday festivities on different days than everyone else. It sounded simple and looked good on our written out plan, but emotionally it took (me anyway) some getting use to.We had our Christmas early, celebrated the coming of the new year in different states, and still have yet to really celebrate Christopher's birthday. We will have lots of stories to tell about our first year of marriage!

But, each week gets easier and easier.

Last week was a nightmare though. I came down with strep throat and a secondary infection - both left me in excruciating pain and terribly uncomfortable. Chris was away on a four day and it was stressful. We made it through and its nice to look back and have that week behind us. That illness has set me back in some ways - lost weight I could not afford to loose, left me very weak and tired, etc. But we are working hard to getting back into shape.

BUT - This week was a treat.....Chris is home every night! After settling into the routine of him being away for several nights....I am not sure what to do with him when he is home! It sure is wonderful to have him home so much though!

We celebrated two big milestones this week. One was me being home for an entire month! Second was that we have been married for six months on the 15th. We also realized we have only lived together for two of those six months. What a ride!

Hopefully (now, this is me being super optimistic here) we will continue our fun adventures and travel very soon. We have a little get away planned and then a trip to Montana to see my doctor. Even though the trip to Montana is not for pleasure, I am still pretty excited to visit a new state!

In the mean time, we take one day at a time and try to take joy....no matter what.
