Esacpe To Sacramento

February 2016
Salt Lake City, Utah - Sacramento, California

We had quite the unplanned adventure over Valentines Day weekend this year. The week prior the air quality in SLC had gotten worse due to a very nasty inversion that was happening. We spent two full days exploring Park City just to get out of the valley and get fresh air. The difference between the valley and just 20 minutes on the other side of the mountain was night and day. I felt great in Park City, but at night when we were home, I would take a nose dive.  I was keeping my eye on the numbers, but by body had enough. I started to get sicker and sicker and knew I could not handle one more night in the valley.

So, at 3am that Friday (since sleeping was impossible for me), Chris and I decided that we needed to get out and tried to come up with ideas that gave us peace. Chris didn't want to fly, so we planned to drive. We finally settled on heading to California and some of our wonderful friends in Sacramento kindly let us crash at their home over the weekend.

We found ourselves all packed and in the car the next morning. This was the view from our street. No, that's not rain, snow, clouds, fog etc... that my friends is toxic pollution.

I let Chris wear one of my handy masks for the drive out of the city...

I needed extra protection.

Here is one of the salt plants along the Great Salt Lake....

Sunny Sacramento! We got in pretty late that Friday night and slept in Saturday morning. But, we did get out to do some sightseeing! Chris took me to see Old Town. I felt so much better by just getting out of the bad air. So we explored and visited with friends until we tired out.

We visited some more with our friends and unfortunately did not take a single picture of our friends! But, we did snap a few on the way home! The air cleared up enough for us to be able to dive home and for me to get settled in before Chris left on his next trip.

On our way out, we drove over the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the dark. But we had this lovely view while driving through on the way home!

Here is Nevada, heading towards Utah...

With Elko, Nevada behind us (never try to find a bathroom in Elko...they are all modly!), here we are close to the Utah border. The sunset that night was amazing!

A few days later, the air quality improved and we were able to avoid a major crisis. I am so thankful for a husband who is willing to whisk me away to safety when needed AND for the adventures spirit in our marriage!
