Here is a brief photo recap of our summer so far. We were able to travel a lot more than we have been able in the past year and we took full advantage of that! When we were not traveling, we were at home recuperating from our travels (or I was and Chris was working).
First up was Chris taking a friend's son up for his first flight in a small plane. The four of us went up together and explored the city, the canyons, and some of the area east of the Wasatch Front.

Chris and his helper putting the plane away...
We then headed east for a week at Virginia Beach. We stopped in to see my family for a really quick visit and somehow we ended up at Winterthur. This was Chris' first visit to Winterthur and it was one of the most perfect times of the year to see the grounds. Early May there is magical...
A peek at the house during the garden tour.
Only a tiny tiny tiny glimpse at the
many azaleas in the garden
A peek into one of my favorite rooms
I always loved when the piano player would
come and play on Mrs. DuPont's 1907 Steinway.
We didn't plan it, but we ended up
coordinating well the gardens...
We met up with my brother and sister-in-love before we headed out. We met at a local park and almost froze to death.
The guys fishing.
This sight made me happy...
Then it was time for us to head to Virginia Beach! We were given a week at a timeshare as a gift/thank you for Chris teaching. This trip came at the perfect time! We were so grateful for this and loved the recharge and the fresh ocean air!
Our view for a week!
It was pretty chilly all week, but we didn't care!
We were no longer in the high desert!
We enjoyed a harbor cruise in Norfolk
and learning about the Navy base.
We toured the USS Wisconsin.
Chris peeking around the bunks...
We explored the Nauticus Museum
We explored Jamestown!
Then spent only a few hours in Williamsburg.
We will go back...
We had a quiet rest of May and early June back at home.
We discovered a British car show at a near by park.
We both got a ride in this beauty!
Chris' sister flew out to visit us for two weeks! It was so wonderful to have her here with us, we loved every minute of it and it was really sad to have to send her home. We had lots of adventures while L. was visiting.
We took her up to see Little Cottonwood Canyon.
I had a doctor's appointment in Montana, so we drove up. On the way we popped over into Yellowstone so L. could see it for the first time. We only spent a few hours in the park, but I think she go a pretty good idea of how awesome it is!
The most frightening spot
I have ever stood at...so far.
We got caught in a downpour on our way back to the car...
we ran..we got really wet..the rain was really cold.
A waterfall near Big Sky, Montana
We three. We miss you L! (and thank you for the photo)
We introduced L to the Tetons
and to a friendly Moose in Jackson, Wyoming
Back home, we attempted one last hike before L left us. The hike started off perfectly fine. But with a nasty and cruel combination of heat, too many trail options, and my body having enough...we got stuck on one of the many trails and had to get down before we had to call 911. But, it was pretty before it got bad...
Right before my body said,
"hell no, I am not doing any more for you today."
A few weeks later we went on a little anniversary camping trip at Grand Teton National Park (if you haven't noticed, we kinda like that park).
Home sweet home for a few days...
Trying out my new binoculars Chris got me for Christmas.
They are amazing by the way!
Bison heard road block. Lots of baby bison out there!
On the way home we drove up through Teton Pass into Idaho. It's a bit smoky down there due to several fires. We wanted to stay longer, but the air quality was getting to the not very safe level.
My happy place...
Victor, Idaho has become a regular stop now...
All of that took some major recuperating, but we managed to squeeze one more hike in before things got busy with work and studying again. So, here we are coming to full circle with this post. We went on a hike with the same friend and her son that we went flying with. Remember that hike I tried to complete last July...I finally made it to the end AND back this time!
Take that CIRS!
a bit of cheese for you...
Our summer adventures are not finished yet, we still have a few more planned and sort of planned. Our goal is to do as much adventuring as we wisely can. Go where my body is happy and rest when I need to. Now that I can function more like a human, we want to get out and enjoy life as much as possible. So, take that CIRS. You may gain ground some days...but you will not keep us down or hold us back!
